Pharmaceutical companies, government and society

Pharmaceutical companies have interacted with government and society for over 100 years. The relationship only became formalised, however, in the second half of the 20th Century.

This lecture will explore, from a historical perspective, the relationship between an emerging pharmaceutical industry, the establishment of drug regulatory authorities, and - most recently - the development of health technology assessment and the creation of NICE.
