GTC-SBS DPhil Scholarship
I am now in my 3rd year as a DPhil student at Green Templeton College and Saïd Business School, doing research on the formation of the social investment market in the UK.
My time at Oxford so far has been an extraordinary experience, both from an academic and a personal perspective. I have learned general research skills and also management and sociological theories; I have joined seminars, workshops, and conferences where I have presented my work and learned from my peers; I have often enjoyed and sometimes struggled (or maybe the other way around) with moving my research forward, but always together with other DPhil students from Saïd Business School and friends from GTC; I have enjoyed college accommodation and some delicious formal dinners; I played at the college’s football team for some time, and then joined the Squash team where I became the “most improved player” – which only meant that I was really bad when I got there.
"All these experiences would not have been possible without the help of Green Templeton College, both financial and as a community where I have been able to develop my social, academic, leisure, and family life."
I came to Oxford with my wife and our 1-year-old, and I am happy to say that he is now 3, and has a little sister who was born at the JR Hospital last year. So, Oxford has seen my family grow and we have been taken good care of all the time. Last year I also spent some months at Stanford University as a visiting student, something that was also possible thanks to the financial help from GTC.
Now that I am preparing for my Confirmation of Status, and being past the middle of my DPhil programme, I am most grateful to Green Templeton College for making this fantastic Oxford experience happen.
