GTC Annual Fund 2011-2012

Thanks to the generosity of our alumni, fellows and friends, GTC's third Annual Fund appeal in 2011-2012 attracted more support than ever before from individuals, foundations and companies.

Gifts to the Fund are used to support projects that enhance student life and experience at GTC, such as improving sports and social facilities, supporting clubs and societies and providing vital funding to students in the form of scholarships, research grants and funding for College-based academic initiatives.

All the projects supported by the Annual Fund have a direct and positive impact on student life here at GTC and we are grateful to everyone for their on-going support.

The many gifts received have been allocated to a broad range of projects across GTC - in accordance with the wishes of our donors and the needs of the College - by The Annual Fund working group, which is made up of Fellows, students and staff.

The following projects have received grants:

Student Support

A Clarendon scholarship: For the third year running, the Annual Fund will support a scholarship covering full tuition and college fees and a grant for living expenses for one of our DPhil students.

Sports Clubs: The GTC Football Club will receive a grant for new kit and equipment, while the very successful College Boat Club will receive support towards training and for competing in external regattas. The GTC Squash Club, which was founded two years ago and has already made its mark on Oxford squash, has received a grant for coaching and training and to create a wall of mounted team photographs and trophies.

Student life: A grant has been awarded to support the student induction process, and academically excellent students who are presenting at conferences and undertaking substantial fieldwork projects.

Academic Initiatives

Personal & Professional Development Series: Once again this year, a grant will support this series which covers self-development, communication, influencing skills, and specialist support for developing academic conference skills. The series gives our students the opportunity to develop their skills under the guidance of experienced business mentors, giving them a valuable edge in whatever careers they pursue, and is exceptional among Oxford colleges.

Science Research Students: A grant has been awarded to support a pilot programme providing our graduate science research students with workshops on how to present work, write papers and grant applications, and teach.

The Human Welfare Conference: For the third year running, the Annual Fund will also help to fund the annual student-led GTC Human Welfare Conference, which supports original work in the field of human welfare and encourages dialogue on current research both within and outside the University community.

Buildings and Facilities

New gates and railings: The Annual Fund is covering the cost of new gates and railings at the entrance to GTC to enhance its appearance.

Hayloft refurbishment: The Annual Fund is also supporting the refurbishment of the Hayloft to enhance College facilities.
