Lectures & seminars
GTC is building on a legacy of important and successful public lectures and seminars organised by its previous constituent colleges. There will be themed series of lectures and one-off events, usually open to the rest of the University and in some cases to the wider public.
McGovern Lecture 2013
Christoph Gradmann, Professor in the History of Medicine at the University of Oslo Institute of Health and Society, will present of A Spirit Of Scientific Rigour: Koch's Postulates And Twentieth Century Medicine on Thursday 21 November.
Green Templeton Lectures 2014: The tyranny of the normal
This year's series of four lectures will look to find answers to questions such as: Is normality - or conformity to certain parameters of behaviour and appearance - a necessary condition of all advanced societies or a tyranny which constrains individual aspiration and social evolution? Do conceptions of normality have any objective basis or are they merely social constructions, inexorably tied to the exercise of political and economic power?
Lectures will take place at 6pm in the E P Abraham Lecture Theatre at GTC on Monday 27 January, and 3, 10 and 24 February 2014. Speakers and lecture titles will be announced shortly.
