Internet & telephones
Internet access
Every room on the College site and in College-owned houses is equipped with an ethernet socket allowing you to connect your computer directly to the internet, local resources including online libraries, and the College filestore. New students must have their PCs or laptops checked by the College IT staff before connecting to the local network. More details will be sent to incoming students before arrival.
For more information about connecting to the internet and other IT issues, see the IT information pages.
Telephones…
On site
All phone lines for accommodation on the main College site are connected via the Oxford University phone network. Phones should work immediately when plugged in, and give free calls to other University extensions. Numbers for these can be gained from the Porters, either directly, or by ringing the Porters on 74770, who can then tell you your number.Phone calls will be charged to your battels account.
Observatory Street and Norham Gardens
All the houses on Observatory Street and the flats at 13 Norham Gardens are currently supplied by BT. However, the responsibility for setting up a phone service and arranging a supplier lies with the occupants, so you are not bound to BT and may change provider if you wish.
St Margaret’s Road
All the houses on St Margaret’s Road use the phone company NTL. To use the landline phones in these houses, you’ll need to pick up an NTL phone pack from the Lodge. This needs to be activated with a UK credit card, and starts with £1.00 credit.
Rewley Abbey Court
RAC flats are connected via the University phone network, giving free calls to other University extensions. Your number can be obtained from the RAC Caretaker. Phone bills will be charged to your battels account.
Wellington Square
Wellington Square rooms are connected via the University phone network, giving free calls to other University extensions. See more information about 25 Wellington Square.
