Green Templeton College | Oxford

Meals

Dining is an important part of the College culture in Oxford. Green Templeton's dining hall can be found on the ground floor of the Observatory. There is no High Table, so Fellows, students, staff, and other Common Room members all dine together as equals.

Lunch

Monday to Friday

A buffet lunch is available in the Observatory Dining Hall between 12.30pm and 1.45pm on weekdays, every week except for short closed periods at Christmas, Easter and in August. All students and Fellows must book by 11am on the same day by contacting the Lodge.
Students pay approximately £3-5 for a hot meal when paying on account using University Card.

Informal supper

Tuesdays

An informal student supper, similar in format to lunch. Students must book at the Lodge by 11am on the previous day. Supper is served between 6 and 7pm on Tuesdays during University term; GTC reserves the right to cancel the supper if insufficient bookings are made.
Students pay approximately £3-5 for a hot meal when paying on account using University Card.

Dinner

Wednesdays and Thursdays

Dinner is served at 7.30 for 8pm on Wednesdays during University term (check term dates) and on Thursdays every week except for short closed periods at Christmas, Easter and in August.

Students pay £12 for dinner, plus £6 for wine.

Whereas in the past students could claim one free Wednesday and one free Thursday formal dinner per term, students are now entitled to six free formal dinners per academic year. A free meal may be allocated to an invited guest but only if the guest is accompanying the student to dinner and the student is also claiming a free meal. When you book your dinner online, you must clearly state in the additional information that you wish to claim a free meal. Wine must be paid for separately and is currently charged at £6pb.

All College members may book for dinner, and may have a maximum of 3 guests each. On Governing Body nights, this is restricted to Fellows and students and a maximum of 1 guest each. Fellows normally wear gowns; other members may do so if they wish.

Book before 10.30am on the previous day. Go to the online dinner booking system, or if you are not able to use this system, e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . See the user guide for the online dinner booking system.

Please note that, because of the restricted number of places available at each dinner, members who try to make multiple advance dinner bookings (for example, booking for every week of a term) may be placed on a waiting list for some dinners. This is to ensure fair access to all members.

College members must now remember to select wine when booking a meal with the online booking system to have wine with the meal. Those booking by email will need to notify This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if they wish to have wine with the meal. Failure to attend the dinner without cancelling will result in a charge (including any guests).

Fridays

The GCR arranges Black Tie dinners for students on Fridays four times per term. Contact the GCR Entz team for information about dates and prices.

The main dining hall and the William Gibson Room (seating a maximum of 14) may be booked for private dinner parties when not in use for College functions, by arrangement with the Events & Activities Manager.
