Dining is an important part of the College culture in Oxford. Green Templeton's dining hall can be found on the ground floor of the Observatory. There is no High Table, so Fellows, students, staff, and other Common Room members all dine together as equals.
Monday to Friday
A buffet lunch is available in the Observatory Dining Hall between 12.15pm and 1.45pm on weekdays, every week except for short closed periods at Christmas, Easter and in August, and occasionally when there are special events taking place. All students and Fellows must book by 10.30am on the same day via the online Meals Booking system.
Students pay approximately £4 for a hot meal when paying on account using University Card.
An informal student supper, similar in format to lunch. Supper is served between 7 and 8pm on occasional Tuesdays during the University term; please consult the term card for these dates. All students must book by 10.30am on the preceding day. GTC reserves the right to cancel the supper if insufficient bookings are made.
Students pay £4.19 for a hot meal when paying on account using a University Card. Guests pay £5.25 cash.
Wednesday and Thursday Formal Dinners
Dinner is served at 7.30 for 8pm on Wednesdays during University term (check term dates) and on Thursdays every week except for short closed periods at Christmas, Easter and in August. All students must book or cancel/amend existing bookings by 10.30am on the preceding day via the online Meals Booking system. If you are not able to use this system, email email@example.com. Students pay £12.52 for dinner, plus £7.10 for wine. Guests of students pay £25.06 for dinner, plus £7.10 for wine.
Students are entitled to six free formal dinners per academic year (from early September up until the annual kitchen and dining room closure in August). A free meal may be allocated to an invited guest but only if the guest is accompanying the student to dinner and the student is also claiming a free meal. When you book your dinner online, you must clearly write in the 'Additional Information' box that you wish to claim a free meal. Wine must be paid for separately and is currently charged at £7.10 per person.
Dietary requirements must also be stated at the time of booking.
All College members may book for dinner, and may have a maximum of three guests each. On Governing Body nights, this is restricted to a maximum of one guest each. Fellows normally wear gowns; other members may do so if they wish.
College members must remember to indicate any dietary requirements and that they wish to have wine when booking a meal with the online booking system. Those booking by email will need to notify firstname.lastname@example.org of any dietary requirements and if they wish to have wine with the meal.
Exchange Dinners ('Home' and 'Away' legs)
The GCR arranges Exchange Dinners dinners which include both a 'home leg' at GTC (57 spaces, held on Fridays) and an 'away leg' at another college. Only 15 spaces are available for the away leg and students who attend the away leg must also attend the home leg. Please contact the GCR Entz team for information about dates and registration.
For the Exchange Dinner 'host' students pay £20.90 for dinner plus £7.10 for wine. 'Non-exchange' GTC students pay £10.45 and guests of students pay £22.99 for dinner, plus £7.10 for wine.
Friday Black Tie and Special Clubs and Societies Dinners
Please contact the GCR Entz team for information about dates and registration for special black tie dinners. Similarly, clubs and societies may hold special dinners for which the same charges apply.
For the Black Tie and special dinners, students pay £19.90 for dinner, plus £7.10 for wine. Guests of students pay £25.04 for dinner, plus £7.10 for wine.
The main dining hall and the William Gibson Room (seating a maximum of 14) may be booked for private dinner parties when not in use for College functions, by arrangement with the Events & Activities Manager. Contact the Conference & Events Manager at email@example.com to arrange a booking.
