Obtaining Antivirus Software

This guide gives a description of how to download and install Sophos. Sophos is a program that if kept updated will protect your computer from viruses. There is a comprehensive guide to installing and using Sophos on the OUCS website at : http://www.oucs.ox.ac.uk/viruses/

NB: Prior to installing the Sophos software you must uninstall any other anti-virus software you may have installed on the machine (read the software manufacturer's instructions on how to do this - usually from the control panel - add / remove programs)

You can download Sophos from the following link:

https://register.oucs.ox.ac.uk/software

This link http://www.oucs.ox.ac.uk/viruses provides instructions for installing and configuiring Sophos on most common operating systems.

You must have antivirus software installed on your computer, PC or Mac for it to be given access to the College network. Sophos is a good, free product, and the IT Department will be happy to assist you with installing it.This installation of Sophos expires every November and will not download updates after this time. You'll need to ensure you update your Sophos from the links above at this time.
