Troubleshooting printing problems

I have no printer(s) installed on the computer I am using / The single sided (HP 3005) or double sided (HP 2420) printer is missing.

You need to install the printers, to do this is very simple:

Click on the Start Button

then Run

and type:

\\jade.green.ox.ac.uk\3005   to install the HP 3005 single sided printer

or

\\jade.green.ox.ac.uk\2420   to install the 2420 double sided printer

You may then see a screen confirming you wish to install the printer.

Click yes and the printer will be installed. Repeat if necessary to install both printers, but there is no need if the printers are already installed. You should then be able to print.

Nothing prints from the HP LaserJet 2420 / HP LaserJet 3005

There are a number of things to check here

Have you put paper in the correct printer?

Have you put more than one sheet of paper in - for the paper feed to work well put at least 10 sheets of paper in, even if you only want to print one sheet

Has the print job left the print queue?

If you click Start - (Settings) - Control panel - Printers, you will open the print queue management screen. Double click the printer you have just printed to, and this will list the outstanding print jobs this printer is waiting to do. You can identify your job as it will be marked with your UserID. If there is a job at the top of the queue, blocking the queue with an error, just right click it and select clear. Please do not clear the print jobs of other users unless you are sure they are not waiting for them. This will often be enough to clear the print queue, and the printer should resume printing automatically.

What message is the printer displaying?

 -  Online / Powersave - Currently waiting for information

 -  Offline - Press the green "go" button and resend your print job

 -   Processing Job / Warming Up - The printer is currently receiving data - be patient as your document is being sent to the printer this may take some time, especially for complicated pictures. You do not need to press or do anything

 -  Remove Paper Jam - There is a paper jam. Follow the  paper jam removal guide. Once you've solved the problem press the big round green button (go) to re-start printing.

 -   Load Paper / Manual Feed A4 / Tray x Empty - The usual cause of this is that the printer is out of paper. Once you've solved the problem press the big round green button to re-start printing. In the case of manual feed A4 you need to put paper in the front tray.

 -   Load Letter / Unexpected Paper Size - This means the printer is expecting a different size of paper, press the green (go) button to force it to print on A4.

 -   Insufficient Memory / Page Too Complex - Try reducing the number of pages sent to print, or the number / size of images on the page - if you are still having this problem contact IT support. Press the Job Cancel button on the printer to clear the printer for other users.

 -  Other message. Follow the  paper jam removal guide to ensure no paper is stuck. If that is not the problem turn the printer off, leave 5 minutes and then turn it back on. If it still does not work contact IT support or try the other printer

I've followed all the troubleshooting advice, who do I contact for help?

If you have no success try sending it to the other printer and report the problem to IT support, preferably including a copy of the document you were trying to print (if the document is small!)
