Green Templeton College | Oxford

Junior Dean

The Junior Dean acts as a liaison figure between the College and students.

Whereas other colleges primarily expect junior deans to 'police' students, Green Templeton adopts a more welfare-oriented and community-building approach for this role. The Junior Dean acts as an approachable figure for staff and students around college, picking up demands and wishes from either side and communicating them to one other. To achieve this, he or she oversees several different College committees, GCR-meetings and tries to participate in as many events and activities as possible. Green Templeton has always prized its friendly atmosphere, and the Junior Dean aims to to ensure that daily life in College runs smoothly.

More importantly, the Junior Dean is the first point of contact for students experiencing issues that affect their welfare, no matter how big or small they are. As far as possible, the Junior Dean therefore tries to use his or her training to deal with such issues informally rather than taking them through official channels at the College or University. Such issues range from locking yourself out of your room in your dressing gown at 3am to resolving tensions between housemates in college-owned accommodation. However, more serious problems such as harassment, eating disorders or depression are also dealt with by the Junior Dean, who will point students in the right direction and get the Senior Dean, College Doctor or University Counsellor involved if necessary.

The current Junior Deans are Joe Feyertag and Amy Burrell. One Junior Dean is always available 24-hours a day during term and can be reached on emergency phone number: 07786684423 where you will contact the on-duty JD.
