The Principal, Professor Denise Lievesley, accompanied by her partner Professor Roland Rosner, recently returned from a trip to Beijing and Hong Kong.

Meetings in Beijing included discussions with former Reuter fellows which revealed contrasting perspectives of the political situation in China and with representatives of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association who were very enthusiastic about strengthening links with GTC.

In Hong Kong, Denise was guest speaker at the 50th anniversary celebrations of the HK Census and Statistics Department at which she gave a half day seminar to senior civil servants and a keynote speech at a large public meeting at the University of Hong Kong.

Denise also had meetings with current and potential donors and hosted a dinner for 10 GTC alumni in the retro-chic setting of the China Club in the Old Bank of China Building. They were joined by Dr Stuart Basten, GTC Governing Body Fellow and his wife, who are in Hong Kong for a year. Denise's report on our ambitious development plans for additional student accommodation generated considerable interest and discussion focussed on the challenge of funding such a major capital project, leading to valuable suggestions as to how HK alumni might help. Many were also keen to join us in Oxford to participate in next year's 10th anniversary celebrations of the College's Foundation.
