Anatomy 2Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Willem van der Meer, 1617, by Pieter van Mierevelt

The deadline for applications to the U.K.’s first ever summer school in Medical Humanities has been extended to 12 noon on Friday 23 March to allow universities to undertake final advertising to undergraduates after the strike days. The summer school in July 2018, hosted by Green Templeton College, is aimed at undergraduates and sixth-form students, with five bursaries available for sixth-formers school students in need. Topics to be covered in the week-long course include observation, illness narratives, communication, medical ethics, ageing, diversity and gender. The new summer school has created a lot of interest but there is still time to apply here. Additional information is also available here or by emailing

One of the course directors, Peter Friend (Professor of Transplantation, Oxford University and Fellow at GTC), says ‘Oxford’s top academics will introduce students to the connection between the art and the science of medicine. This interdisciplinary course will teach students how to think in an integrated way.
