Lang 2

Trudie Lang, Senior Research Fellow at Green Templeton and Professor of Global Health,  recently addressed a panel in the House of Commons, organised by the Coalition for Global Prosperity, to discuss preventing the next global epidemic. This timely meeting occured as Ebola cases have reemerged in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Professor Lang called international cooperation, citing a need for 'true global leadership' in preventing the spread of epidemics. 'It’s really difficult to get research underway quickly and the biggest reason is there’s not enough capacity,' she explained. 'The outbreaks take place in some of the poorest places in the world. When you put the research response in you have to work as a global community. This needs to be prioritised and we need centralised global thinking to coordinate the response.'
