How does getting evidence into policy really work? A ‘behind closed doors’ discussion with a leading knowledge broker for health in Europe

Monday 22 May 2017, 16:00 - 17:00

With Dr Josep Figueras, Director of the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies, Head of the WHO European Centre on Health Policy

In advance of giving an open seminar on the long-term challenges facing health systems in Europe, Dr Figueras will hold a closed-door, confidential discussion with a select group of students and academics about his experiences of how getting evidence into policy really works.

This event will provide a unique opportunity to gain insights in to how policy is made and how evidence might influence it. Dr Figueras is one of the leading knowledge brokers for health in Europe, working directly with ministers of health and key policy-makers across the European region. His task is to bring evidence into policy-making – through formal mechanisms such as the Observatory’s publications, and through more informal mechanisms such as building relationships with key players, providing confidential advice, fielding emails and late-night phone calls. You will have the opportunity to ask him about what his work involves and how it has evolved over time, his approach to working with different stakeholders and different kinds of evidence, and what this means for researchers and stakeholders trying to get evidence into policy.

Applications to attend
This is an invitation-only session, and places are limited. If you wish to take part, please complete the application form. You will need to tell us briefly about your background and why you are interested to attend, as well as a question you wish to ask Dr Figueras and why.

The deadline for applications is Friday 5th May. We will advise applicants whether or not they are successful by Friday 12th May.

This is part of the Health & Care Studies Seminars organised by Fellows of Green Templeton College.
