Dr Tim Clayden
Dr Tim Clayden OBE is an Honorary Fellow at Green Templeton College, University of Oxford. He served as Bursar at the college from 2017 to 2025. During that period he was a member of Governing Body, and on, among others, the Finance and Investment, Estate, Development and Risk and Scrutiny committees.
Tim was born in Cape Town, South Africa and came to Britain in 1978 when he was 17. Before joining Green Templeton, Tim worked for 24 years in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) with postings to Poland (1991-94), Nigeria (1996-99), Pakistan (2001-04) and Australia (2006-10). He was awarded with an OBE in 2000. On leaving the FCO, he spent four years in heavy industry.
In 1989 Tim graduated (DPhil) from Wolfson College, Oxford. His thesis, and the subject of all his subsequent and current research and publications, is the history and archaeology of the Kassite Period (c. 1600-1150 BCE) in Iraq.
Tim has been married to Kath since 1984 and they live in Oxford.
