Kawasaki Gakuen Relationship
History
Green College, subsequently Green Templeton College, has enjoyed a significant relationship with the Kawasaki Gakuen since the mid-1990s. In 2002 a new agreement was entered to enable visits to Oxford by clinicians and medical scientists from the Kawasaki Medical School, and University of Medical Welfare, in order to conduct research and generally broaden their medical knowledge.
In 2008, Dr Akinori Kawasaki, Chairman of the Kawasaki Gakuen was bestowed a Radcliffe Fellowship by our Governing Body in recognition of his contribution to college. In 2023, and following the passing of Chairman Akinori Kawasaki, his son, Dr Seiji Kawasaki was presented with a Radcliffe Fellowship by Principal Sir Michael Dixon at their meeting in Okayama City.

Principal Sir Michael Dixon bestowed Kawasaki Gakuen Chairman of board of directors, Dr Seiji Kawasaki MD, PhD, with a Radcliffe Fellowship on a visit to the medical institute in Okayama, Japan on Monday 13 May.
The Kawasaki Gakuen, Okayama, Japan was founded in 1970 by Dr Sukenobu Kawasaki, under the three philosophical themes of Liberal Humanity, Sound Body and Profound Knowledge. And today comprises of seven institutions including three Medical Schools, a University of Medical Welfare, a College of Allied Health Professionals along with a Senior High School attached to one of the Medical Schools and a Junior College of Rehabilitation.

With thanks to the valued relationship with the Kawasaki family, both faculty members and students undertake visits from one institution to the other for academic purposes, to develop teaching interests or pursue a topic of research, while also identifying common research interests which may offer opportunities for researchers to work together on areas of medicine and human welfare.
Green Templeton enjoys biannual visit from the Chairman of the Kawasaki board of directors, with the college Principal visiting the Gakuen in alternate years.
