Chinese Science / Humanities Club

The Chinese Science / Humanities Club is a Student Academic Project organised by Zhiyi Wu, DPhil Ion Channels and Disease.

In these events, senior academics give talks in Mandarin about science and humanities. The biweekly event runs throughout the year featuring two talks, one about science and another about the humanities, separated by a short break in between to allow for networking and refreshments.

The aims of the talks include:

  • Giving Chinese students wishing to return to China after graduation the opportunity to get accustomed to receiving scientific talks in Mandarin and to practise using Mandarin for scientific discussion;
  • Bringing together Chinese business students, medical science students and education students, to help cultivate collaboration and new ideas;
  • Allowing students interested in getting grants from China or continuing their scientific career in China the opportunity to socialise with Chinese students familiar with the details of developing a scientific career in the country.
