Being a Beast – Green Templeton College London Alumni Event
Event to mark the launch of the Green Templeton College London Alumni ChapterWednesday 13 November 2019 18:30 to 20:30
Professor Charles Foster, Green Templeton College Fellow and Visiting Professor of Law, University of Oxford
Green Templeton College will be hosting an event at The Royal Society, London to mark the launch of the Green Templeton College London Alumni Chapter, the fifth Chapter to be launched as part of our international alumni engagement programme.
Our speaker for the evening is Professor Charles Foster, a Fellow of Green Templeton College and Visiting Professor of Law at the University of Oxford. Professor Foster is a practising barrister, and has been involved in many of the central cases in medical law over the last few years, including the assisted suicide litigation in the Supreme Court. His main research interests relate to the notions of identity, personhood, and authenticity.
Professor Foster is also a successful author. At this event his talk will focus on his acclaimed book Being a Beast, a New York Times bestseller and IgNobel Prize winner.
Being a Beast
Is it possible to know anything about the sensory worlds of non-human animals? Indeed, is it possible to know anything about the sensory world of any creature other than oneself? Professor Foster will examine these old, vital and repercussive questions in a humours and entertaining talk from his experience of living like a badger in the Welsh Black Mountains, an urban fox in London’s East End, an otter in the rivers of Exmoor, a red deer in the Scottish Highlands and in the West Country, and a swift in the skies between Oxford and central Africa.
Professor Foster will speak from 19:00 – 19.45 with an opportunity for questions from the audience. Drinks will be served before and after his presentation, providing the opportunity to meet and to catch up with fellow alumni. Canapés will be served between 19:45 and 20:30.
Please join Principal Professor Denise Lievesley and fellow alumni and friends for this very special event to launch the Green Templeton community in London, and to hear what promises to be an illuminating, thought provoking and entertaining talk from our guest speaker.Type: Alumni, Lectures and Seminars
