Under The Knife (2007) film screening

Medical Anthropology Film & Discussion Group

Tuesday 5 November 2019   15:30 to 17:00

Speakers:

Directed by L. Theroux

The Medical Anthropology Film & Discussion Group explores the extent to which film can complement, enrich and further the study of medical anthropology themes, topics and methods. After watching selected clips, we discuss a film’s content and approach, and interrogate its capacity to support the analysis of issues relating to illness, crisis, health and wellbeing.
This term we focus on the theme of the ‘skin’.

Under The Knife (2007)
Directed by L. Theroux
Louis Theroux gets under the skin of the plastic surgery patients that crowd the clinics of Beverly Hills. Louis becomes a part of the plastic surgeon’s daily lives, joining them for their consultations and operations. As Louis tries to understand the motivations of the patients, he begins to wonder if he too should go under the surgeon’s knife.
