Green Templeton College hosted its annual Diversity Dinner on Thursday 30 October, bringing together students, fellows and staff to celebrate inclusion and mark Black History Month. The evening, supported by the college’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Forum, combined thoughtful discussion with a celebratory meal curated by members of the Black Students’ Society and the college’s catering team.Professor Patricia Daley

Before the dinner, guests were invited to hear from Professor Patricia Daley, Professor of the Human Geography of Africa, co-founder of the University of Oxford’s Black and Minority Ethnic Staff Network, and the first Black academic to be appointed to a post at the university in 1991. Professor Daley reflected on her journey through academia, the evolving landscape of equality and representation at Oxford, and the importance of sustained, collective commitment to inclusion.

Her address prompted meaningful conversation among attendees, setting the tone for an evening centred on listening, learning and connection. The evening provided an opportunity for members of the college community to reflect on the themes of belonging and shared responsibility for progress.

Following the talk, guests enjoyed a three-course dinner featuring dishes inspired by African flavours. The menu included Patacones con hogao to start, followed by Jollof rice and chicken (with tofu for vegetarians) and coleslaw, and rounded off with Puff Puff served with ice cream for dessert.

The Diversity Dinner remains a highlight of Green Templeton’s calendar, fostering open dialogue and celebrating the diverse experiences that strengthen the college community.
