Professor Neil Mortensen, Governing Body Fellow of GTC, has been appointed Vice President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCSE), where he has been a member of Council and Trustee for the last three years.

The RCSE based at Lincoln's Inn Fields is an important voice for surgery in the UK with 25,000 fellows and members world wide. The College sets a curriculum and examinations for surgical training and seeks to promote the highest standards of care for patients.

Professor Mortensen has been Professor of Surgery in Oxford and will have particular responsibility for surgical research and quality measures and outcomes. Commentating on his appointment, he observes: " I am delighted and honoured to have been elected to this post and I hope to play a part in the Royal College exerting positive pressure on behalf of all surgeons at this difficult time in the funding and provision of surgical services".
