Green Templeton College | Oxford

Associate Members are appointed by the Governing Body in recognition of temporary association with Green Templeton in support of its academic objectives. These include Clinical Teaching Associates and Research Associates (including members of the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism).

Common Room Members and Radcliffe Common Room Members (appointed for life in recognition of their significant role in the foundation and establishment of the College and its predecessors) are also Associate Members of Green Templeton College.

The GTC Common Room

In Oxford terms, ‘Common Room’ refers not only to a physical space associated with college social activities, but also to the body of people associated with the college who are entitled to use the facilities, attend the social activities, and so on.

At Green Templeton, there is no ‘Senior Common Room’ to isolate Fellows from students. Instead, in addition to the Graduate Common Room (the student body), there is one single Common Room to which all members of the College belong – Fellows, students, Research Fellows, Visiting Scholars, Honorary Members, and so on.

Membership of the Common Room is open to non-members of the College by election, but numbers are limited. Prospective Members must be proposed by two College Fellows and agreed by the College Life Committee. There is usually an annual fee.

Once elected, a Common Room Member can expect to receive regular news and publications from the College, and invitations to events. Members are also able to dine in College, and are entitled to use most of the facilities of the College.
