Juan Felipe Romero Sierra
Master of Public Policy
I am an economist from La Guajira, Colombia. I studied at the National University and have spent seven years working between the private and public sectors: firstly for Chevron Petroleum Company, before joining the cabinet of the Governor of La Guajira to manage the Science, Technology and Innovation Fund, creating the opportunity for more than 300 people to do a master’s degree in the best universities worldwide. Lately, I worked as a research assistant to a project at Harvard University about the education sector in Colombia.
I have dedicated much of my life to public service through initiatives that have benefited over 30,000 people, bringing together over 150 volunteers to work on development issues. I was director of the first TEDx Talks event in my region, and recently I have been pushing for the creation of a new citizens’ movement there to change the way politics is done. I am convinced that the change will come only if new leaders engage in the political arena.
