David Matchar headshot in dark suit, white shirt and yellow/gold tieProfessor David Matchar, MD, FACP, FAMS was a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at Green Templeton College, University of Oxford. He is Professor of Medicine at Duke University in the United States, Director of the Duke Center for Clinical Health Policy Research, and the Inaugural Director of the Programme in Health Services and Systems Research (HSSR), Duke-NUS Medical School, Singapore.

For more than 35 years, Professor Matchar’s research goal has been to promote the use of best evidence to support clinical and public policy decision making. This has spanned a range of clinical and public health issues, involving researchers from multiple disciplines under a common systems-oriented conceptual framework. Recently he has been working on projects in Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands, as well as the US and Europe.

As a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at Green Templeton he is focusing on a project emerging from his work with the Singapore Ministry of Health Office of Healthcare Transformation. The aim is to provide concrete guidance for regional health systems in developing innovative services that are successful and sustainable under an emerging national capitation-based payment scheme. He is also working with a WHO advisory group to advance the capacity to apply systems thinking to health systems strengthening globally.
