Dr Gerald Myatt
Gerald Myatt joined the Department of Physics of the University of Oxford in September 1970. He served as Senior Research Officer then Lecturer and then Reader. His field of Research was Elementary Particle Physics and most of his experiments were carried out at CERN, Geneva. There has been great progress in this field over the last 50 years and now there is a theory (the Standard Model) which describes elementary processes with great precision.
In 2009 he shared in a European Physical Society Prize for his part in one of the crucial discoveries that made this progress possible.
In 1979 he was offered a Fellowship at Green College which had just been created. He accepted and served as Governing Body Fellow. He retired in 2003 and the then Warden, Sir John Hanson, asked if he would act as Deputy to the Dean of Degrees (David Millard). He accepted and served as Deputy and then Dean until 2016.
