Dr Lisa Hinton
Dr Lisa Hinton is a Research Fellow at Green Templeton College and an Associate Professor in the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, University of Oxford. Lisa leads a research programme that uses applied social sciences to understand and improve patient care with a major focus on health experiences, womenโs health and maternity care, the consequences of digital health for new care pathways and health inequalities.
Lisaโs varied career spans journalism, health policy, and research. She has over 15 years of experience working as a social scientist in medical departments, an international reputation for impactful interdisciplinary research, methodological innovation and participatory approaches and has undertaken her research in the UK and internationally, including in Kenya and South Africa.
Lisa rejoined the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences in 2023 as Director of Oxford Qualitative Courses (OQC) and senior member of the Medical Sociology & Health Experiences Research Group. From 2019 to 2023, she was Research Programme Lead at The Healthcare Improvement Studies (THIS) Institute in the Department of Public Health and Primary Care in Cambridge.
Lisa has a BA in Social and Political Sciences from Cambridge University and DPhil in Medical Sociology from Oxford University. She trained as a journalist and was, for 12 years, a television producer for the BBC and Channel 4, and seconded to the Health Select Committee from 2009 to 2010.
