Mr Setthasorn Ooi
Mr Setthasorn Ooi is a Teaching Associate at Green Templeton College, University of Oxford.
Sett is a Core Surgical Trainee in General and Plastic Surgery in Oxford. He graduated from Cardiff University School of Medicine in 2023 and completed his Foundation Training in Swansea, during which he passed both parts of the Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) examinations at first attempt. He is passionate about surgical training, medical education, and global surgery, and has been an active advocate for collaborative research and widening participation in surgery.
Sett has held multiple national leadership roles, including Medical Student Representative and now Executive Council member of the Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT), Chair of the Neurology and Neurosurgery Interest Group (NANSIG), Co-Chair of STARSurg UK, and President of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) Wales Foundation Trainee Surgical Society (WFTSS). He has authored over 80 PubMed-indexed publications and presented widely at national and international meetings. His research has been supported by summer grants from the Wellcome Trust INSPIRE scheme and the Society for Research into Hydrocephalus and Spina Bifida (SRHSB), and has been recognised with prizes from the British Association of Surgical Oncology (BASO), the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd), the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM).
Alongside his clinical and research commitments, Sett is an enthusiastic educator. He has also been appointed as an Anatomy Demonstrator and Supervising Associate Teaching Fellow at the University of Oxford. He has founded and chaired multiple teaching initiatives that have reached thousands of learners worldwide, published BMAT and UCAT exam revision books, and delivered teaching across anatomy, OSCEs, clinical skills, and surgical training. His work in medical education has been recognised internationally, including as Runner-Up for the Zeshan Qureshi Outstanding Achievement in Medical Education Award. He continues to champion excellence in surgical training and remains committed to inspiring the next generation of surgeons.
