Professor Stephen Kennedy is a Senior Research Fellow, Green Templeton College and Emeritus Professor of Reproductive Medicine at the Nuffield Department of Womenβs & Reproductive Health, University of Oxford, and Co-Director of Oxford Maternal & Perinatal Health Institute (OMPHI).

Although retired, Stephen continues to contribute to INTERGROWTH-21st, a large-scale, multicentre project, funded by the Gates Foundation, involving over 60,000 mothers and babies in 11 geographically diverse countries, that aims to assess fetal and newborn growth under optimal and various sub-optimal conditions (e.g. malaria, HIV and malnutrition).

The key message of the INTERGROWTH-21st Project is that healthy, well-nourished women who live in a healthy environment and receive adequate health care, have babies that grow in a similar way in the womb and achieve a similar size at birth irrespective of their ethnicity/race.
