Ready to run!

The GTC Running Club participated in the Oxford Town and Gown, a 10km fun run held on Sunday 14 May 2023, in University Parks. The event aimed to raise funds for Muscular Dystrophy UK (MDUK), with all profits from the race going towards the cause.

The GTC Running Club members met early in the morning at college and made their way to the starting point together. Many of them wore the official GTC running shirts, showing their pride in being part of the GTC community. Some of them had prepared for the event for weeks, training regularly every Monday to build up their endurance.

The atmosphere was lively and energetic, with participants from all age groups, backgrounds, and abilities, coming together to support the cause. The event was a great way for students to meet new people and create lasting friendships, outside of the academic setting. After completing the race, the participants received a medal as a token of appreciation for their efforts. There was also a festive atmosphere, with food and drinks stalls, music, and other activities for participants and spectators to enjoy.

DPhil student Jacqui said: ‘I wouldn’t have been able to enter the race this year without the funded GTC places and was grateful to be able to be part of the team. I enjoyed meeting the other runners beforehand for team photos, and also saw several after the race where we congratulated each other. It was a really great atmosphere!’

Overall, the Oxford Town and Gown event was a fantastic day, with the GTC Running Club members making a meaningful contribution to the cause while also having fun and connecting with their peers. The event provided a unique opportunity to engage in physical activity, promote awareness of muscular dystrophy, and come together as a community to support a worthy cause. Thank you GTC!
