French Rock and Roll Dance Night

The Graduate Common Room recently hosted a French Rock and Roll Night in the Tower of the Winds.
Ella Dunlop (Clinical Medicine, 2020) reports:
The day was a collaboration between the GCR and the UCL Le Rock Society. Le Rock is a dynamic partner dance from France created in the 1980s, incorporating a range of moves, from beginner spins to acrobatics. No previous experience or partner were required in this social setting where priority was placed on safety and inclusion and pairs swapped around regularly. The dress code was smart casual, and sensible shoes were a must for dancing on the wooden floor!
The president and five committee members from UCL society were invited to college for a tour, taken to lunch, and shown the best of the city before class commenced.
The activities were timed to ensure a final social dance session at sunset to take advantage of the vantage point from the Tower. Golden hour faded out to sunset and lit the skies behind our dancers as college members picked up elaborate spins and turns, dancing to the sounds of 80βs euro pop tunes! You can sample the playlist yourself here.
After sunset, the crowd retired for dinner before breaking out their new moves at the BOP the same night.

The GCR hopes to foster good relationships with our London neighbours, particularly for UCLβs strengths in global politics, international relations and medical anthropology which align with our own Masters offering.
Gratitude goes to the college events team, particularly Hayley Pugh for helping to coordinate room booking, risk assessment, and liaising with the GCR Entertainment Representative who organised aspects of the guests’ and participants’ experience.
