Green Action Week 2024
Green Templeton College once again took part in the university’s Green Action Week, which ran from Monday 19 February to Friday 23 February 2024.
Green Action Week at Green Templeton embodies a collective commitment to building a more sustainable future. By fostering dialogue, promoting awareness, and celebrating sustainable practices, the college community reaffirms its dedication to ignite conversations, inspire change, and celebrate sustainable living.
At the heart of this initiative is the commitment to reduce our ecological footprint. Throughout the week, the college refrained from serving red meat across its menus, instead opting to showcase the diversity and richness of locally sourced vegetables and Fairtrade products. This shift not only promotes healthier dietary choices but also supports local farmers and sustainable agricultural practices.
One of the highlights of the week was the Student Supper X Green Action Week event. Green Templeton students and their guests had the opportunity to savor a specially curated two-course meal highlighting the versatility of British produce. Moreover, students adorned in green attire had a chance to win enticing local and Fairtrade produce hampers, incentivizing eco-friendly fashion choices.
Wednesday was a thought-provoking experience with the GCR Environmental Movie Night in the Hayloft. Open to all members of the college, this cinematic event aimed to raise awareness and stimulate discussions on pressing environmental issues.
Thursday marks the pinnacle of Green Action Week with the much-anticipated Low Carbon Formal Dinner. In collaboration with the GTC Lecture Series on Planetary Health, the dinner showcased a delectable menu crafted to demonstrate the tantalising possibilities of low-carbon dining.
The festivities continued with a Sustainability Night at the Stables Bar. Locally sourced cocktails and Fairtrade beverages were served whilst there was also special offers and the chance to win a hamper full of sustainable goodies!
The week then drew to a close on Saturday with the GCR Sustainabili-tea, offering students and their guests an informal platform to engage with GCR sustainability representatives and delve deeper into the realm of green action.
