Inaugural Green Templeton-Franklin Templeton Academic Partnership

‘Extracting value through innovation’ was the theme of the academic partnership programme between Green Templeton and Franklin Templeton from 18 to 20 November.

Discussions ranged from technology in healthcare with Professor Trish Greenhalgh to water security with Dr Dustin Garrick, and from future trends in private equity with Professor Tim Jenkinson to media disruption and leadership with Professor Lucy Kueng.

The program, which brought together leading academics from across the University of Oxford, was directed by Emeritus Fellow Dr Marshall Young and attended by twenty senior executive decision-makers representing institutions from around the world.

The agenda also included sessions on leadership and the power of narrative with theatre director and executive trainer Richard Olivier, as well as highlights of Oxford, among these visits to the Ashmolean Museum, the Bodleian Library and dinners at Christ Church and in the Radcliffe Observatory.

Jenny Johnson, President and COO of Franklin Resources, Inc. and Denise Lievesley, Principal of Green Templeton, introduced the programme at the start of the week.

Jenny Johnson commented:

‘We are extremely proud of the legacy of Sir John Templeton. Partnering with Green Templeton College is a rare opportunity to have so many key investment decision makers and academic scholars in a single forum for a truly unique experience.’

Denise Lievesley commented:

‘Green Templeton was delighted to work with Franklin Templeton as academic partner on this exciting programme. We enjoyed discussions relating to our shared interests in sustainable investing and environmental, social and governance issues.’

The two organisations have common heritage in their connection to Sir John Templeton.

Green Templeton was established in its current form in October 2008 through the merger of Green and Templeton Colleges. Templeton College, inaugurated in 1984 following support from Sir John Templeton (1912–2008), established business and management education at Oxford University. Green Templeton has embraced a wider range of disciplines with a broad focus on human welfare.

For more than 70 years, Franklin Templeton has partnered with investors to turn ambition into achievement. One way it does this is through a robust thought leadership program that offers diverse topics that evolve with the investment landscape and its client’s needs, helping them Reach for Better®.
