Principal Denise Lievesley hosts Green Templeton reception at House of Commons

Principal Denise Lievesley addresses guests at the House of Commons
Principal Denise Lievesley hosted a reception at the House of Commons on Thursday 16 May to showcase the life and work of Green Templeton College.
Guests were invited to the evening event, held at the Thames Pavilion, to hear more about different aspects of the Green Templeton community, the college’s engagement with real-world challenges, and its plans for the future.
Political figures in attendance included Former Home Secretary The Right Honourable Charles Clarke and Former Chief Executive of the NHS The Lord Nigel Crisp, who learned more about the college from students including Jolet Mimpen, President of the Green Templeton Boat Club and Cox for this year’s victorious Oxford University Lightweight Women’s Boat Race crew.
Other students who mingled with guests included Spencer Tong, the current Oxford-Sir David Weatherall Scholar.
Green Templeton College Fellows, alumni, friends and supporters were also invited, alongside representatives from the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism.
Guests were encouraged to learn more about Green Templeton by visiting different stations around the room that were themed around college initiatives and events including Student Support, Health and Medicine, College Life and Future Plans.
Denise told the assembled guests: “As I hope you will take away from this evening, we have both a vibrant college community today and exciting plans for the future in a range of areas.
“At Green Templeton we are embedded in the strengths and history of the University of Oxford but as an independent charity and in just our tenth year in our current form, we have the flexibility to be agile and to innovate unburdened by history and precedent.”
Denise also gave guests a preview of the launch of the Principal’s Fund, which seeks to build a pool of financial support to enhance the student experience.
She said: “Since I became Principal at Green Templeton I have been most inspired and made optimistic about the world by our student body. As rich as it is for the diversity and areas of focus, there is a common theme about some of the best young minds concentrated and committed to effecting real change in the world.
“Iβve also seen up close the challenges that even our best-prepared students can face. It is in this context that I am particularly pleased to be able to use this occasion to preview the launch of the Principalβs Fund for the student experience.”
