Nautilus Awards 2018 winners announced

The Nautilus Awards’ prestigious distinction recognises students’ exceptional achievements and contributions to student community life over the course of the academic year. Each of these students has enhanced Green Templeton College’s reputation throughout the University through their efforts in academia, sport, or college citizenship.

The 2018 winners were as follows:

Hannah Cornwall
For academic excellence on her clinical course and extracurricular projects, and enriching other students’ lives through teaching, conferences and society events.

Gracia Fellmeth 
For academic excellence recognised in the University and beyond, and for raising awareness of global health issues in non-specialist and lay audiences.

George Gillett 
For University-wide and national essay prizes, in addition to other academic prizes, and for communicating academic concepts through journalism.

Tom McCelland
For Presidency of the Doll Society, organising dinners as well as conferences to enable the medical student body to have spirited discussions around medicine in its wider context while showcasing the academic quality of college Fellows, establishing peer-to-peer network tutorials, so that younger students could receive tuition from older students.

David Nasralla
For designing and conducting a phase III multicentre randomised controlled trial which resulted in 200 livers transplanted in 20 months; for a thorough approach, attention to detail, and scientific integrity.

Jack O’Sullivan
For policy work (with the WHO), editorial work (with BMJ Evidence-Based Medicine), peer-reviewed publications (including the BMJ), conference presentations, and a successful grant bid to the NIHR.

Janina Isabel Steinert
For excellence, hard work and enthusiasm, resulting in a DPhil thesis which will help advance both theoretical and practical knowledge of how to boost the effectiveness of poverty alleviation programmes in Africa.

Sanja Brolih
For great efforts toward college rowing at Green Templeton Boat Club, as well as for her great accomplishment of representing Green Templeton on the Women’s Reserve Boat Race.

Clarissa Coveney
For involvement in the main squad of the Oxford University Women’s Boat Race, for coxing the second boat in the Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race, for leading the Green Templeton women’s 1st boat into the top division for the first time in the college’s rowing history; for helping to develop a platform to assist mental stability and performance for Blues rowers throughout the year.

Richard Healicon
For being a key member of the blues trampolining first team, coaching newcomers and less experienced members of the club and for being an important member of the college squash team.

Caitlyn McGreer
For a wide ranging commitment to college sport, including management of the gym and arranging tennis coaching.

Jolet Mimpen
For being an excellent athlete, highly determined and organised; for coxing the women’s second boat at the Oxford/Cambridge lightweights boat races (and winning the only Oxford victory in this year’s boat race season.

Ilona Quahe
For outstanding commitment to the running of the Green Templeton Boat Club, motivating and monitoring progress of all Green Templeton Boat Club women rowers, contributing to the positive spirit and the energy that makes the boat club thrive, exceptional commitment, dedication and contribution to the boat club and Green Templeton’s general reputation.

Zoe Thursz
For exceptional impact on the sporting community of Oxford, serving as Blues captain for the Women’s Lacrosse Team (uniquely for the second year running), for excellent skills as a leader and mentor, for a selfless spirit on and off pitch, for award winning service and professional performance, pioneering the Women’s Lacrosse Development Squad.

Noon Altajani
For being an excellent GCR President, whose leadership has greatly improved the college experience for Green Templeton students, for admirable humility and dedication, warmth and welcome, for promoting college life at every opportunity, coordinating student-led activities and ensuring smooth and effective communication between the college and students.

Papa Kojo Pako Botsio
For extensive contribution to life at Green Templeton, including particularly for founding and coordinating the Oxford African Choir but also for helping to organise one of the college’s largest student-led conferences.

Olya Krestyaninova
For extensive work as president of the Ball Committee.

Krystal Moczygemba
For work as VP Internal Entz, organising, advertising, and implementing many activities for the GCRC community; working hard but always with a smile.

Dunia Tonob
For extensive involvement in GCR activities as the VP Welfare, involving organising welfare activities, leading calmly from the back with maturity and professionalism.
