Professor Rasmus Kleis Nielsen gives talk to Alumni Chapter in Japan
Green Templeton College Senior Research Fellow Professor Rasmus Kleis Nielsen was the first guest speaker invited to address the recently-formed Alumni Chapter in Japan.
Professor Nielsen, Director of the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, joined the Alumni Chapter to discuss the future of journalism during an evening event at the Belle Salle Nihonbashi in Tokyo on 17 April.
He delivered a lecture to the group on the topic, ‘What is happening to our news? Challenges and opportunities for journalism today’, which was followed by a group discussion.
The talk explored how media companies around the world are fighting the battle for attention and public trust, finding new business models for funding news, and navigating relationships between platforms and publishers.
Professor Nielsen presented Templeton alum Nathan Ramler, who leads the Alumni Chapter in Japan, with a beautiful print of the Radcliffe Observatory by Green Templeton Artist-in-Residence Weimin He.
The Alumni Chapter in Japan was formally launched by Green Templeton College Principal Denise Lievesley on 22 March 2019, during her visit to Tokyo for the University of Oxford’s Meeting Minds in Asia Weekend.ย She announced the formation of the Chapter during a reception for Green Templeton alumni, friends and supporters in the city.
The Chapterโs purpose is to bring together alumni who have shared the Green, Templeton or Green Templeton experience, and provide networking opportunities and events throughout the year. The Chapter will also keep its members informed of news and developments from college, and discuss how they might be able to support current students in preparation for, and during, their time at Green Templeton.
Aย Facebook group for the Japan Chapter has been created here for anyone wishing to join.
