Student Support Series: Presenting research in Lausanne, Switzerland

For course-related fieldwork and conference funding, Green Templeton students can apply for Competitive Conference and Fieldwork Funding (CCFF). As part of our highlighting of Student Support for Giving Day on 5 and 6 February 2020, we spoke to some of our students who secured this funding to hear more about the work and experiences it contributes to.

Hanzhi Hu (DPhil Sociology, 2018) based in the Department of Sociology, spoke to us about her visit to the European Consortium of Sociological Research (ECSR) Conference in Lausanne, Switzerland last summer, to present some of her research on The Demographic Pathways of Intergenerational Transmission of Educational Attainment – The role of fertility and parental assortative mating in Status Reproduction.

Photo1“I am a 2nd year DPhil in Sociology at Green Templeton College. My research is trying to understand how parental demographic behaviours, for example, whom they married, how many children they have, and etc., affect the educational attainment of their next generation. I received the support from college CCFF funding to present my work at the European Consortium of Sociological Research (ECSR) Conference in Lausanne, Switzerland last summer. The funding helps me cover the conference registration fees and transportation cost. It allows me to present my work to colleagues in the field and receive helpful feedback, questions and comments. I am very grateful for the opportunity given.”
