MSc International Health and Tropical Medicine 2021Tanu Soni

Hi my name is Tanu Soni. Prior to commencing my MSc, I completed my Master of Public Health (MPH) from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh, India. I am specialised in Epidemiology and Biostatistics. I obtained my Bachelor’s in Dental Surgery (BDS). I have also undergone training in project management certified by the International Association for Continuing Education.

For the past seven years, I have worked with various national and international organizations as a public health professional. During my work, I have contributed towards the implementation, critical appraisal, monitoring and evaluation of projects under various capacities. My area of expertise and interest includes Primary Health Care, Global Health, Stakeholder Management, Implementation Research and Medical Education.

I am always enthusiastic to work on public health initiatives and have volunteered for Global Health Field Based Community Development Studies in Gender Equity, WASH and Nutrition. I have also participated in the international program “the May Measurement Month (MMM)” led by International Society of Hypertension aimed at creating awareness of hypertension through opportunistic screening. One of the key objectives of MMM is to collect the scientific evidence needed to help influence global health policy and make BP screening more widely available around the world.

I have joined the MSc program as an ExxonMobil Global Health Scholar to acquire additional knowledge and broaden my possibilities to act in favour of international development and health innovations in resource limited settings.

In the future, I aim to work in a leadership position influencing health policies at their genesis through innovative methods.
During my spare time, I enjoy being with nature and have a passion for hiking and mountains. As a curious person, I’d love to meet people with different backgrounds and interests.

MSc International Health and Tropical Medicine
2021

Makafui Tunde Adebayo, facing the camera directly wearing a checked shirtA medic on a mission to make modern therapeutics and vaccines accessible to the marginalised. Hence, I am reading the MSc International Health and Tropical Medicine to complement past studies in Clinical Pharmacology.

I am at once a wanderlust, bibliophile, Afro-pop music junkie, foodie and fitness enthusiast. You’ll find me breaking the tedium of academics with a walk in the park, exploration of a museum or I’ll have the latest Afro-pop jam on incessant repeat in my room, while sipping a delicious brew of cappuccino made with organic Ghanaian chocolate-I highly recommend it!!

MSc International Health and Tropical Medicine
2021

Francesca MaraschinI am a proud South African doctor who studied medicine at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. For the past four years, I have been working in public hospitals in Johannesburg. I have spent a significant portion of this time working in paediatrics and paediatric surgery. My most recent position was working as a medical officer in ICU at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, the fourth largest hospital in the world.

I am passionate about children and through my volunteer work and professional experience as a doctor I have come to recognise the need for a system that supports the holistic wellbeing of this vulnerable group. I have the skills to treat patients medically but lack the breadth of knowledge in foundations of public health to challenge improve the structural shortfalls of the South African healthcare system. This is why I am I have chosen to study the MSc in International Health and Tropical Medicine.

MSc International Health and Tropical Medicine
2020

I am a Biomedical engineering graduate and currently pursuing my MSc. in International Health and Tropical Medicine at the University of Oxford. For the last three years, I was working as a research analyst in India, applying my skills in engineering to undertake projects in public health. I have worked on projects ranging from developing health monitoring systems for neonates in rural settings to tools like fortification simulation dashboards for the Indian government.

MSc International Health and Tropical Medicine
2020Greco Mark Malijan

My research interests span clinical medicine, public health, and mathematical modeling. I am a graduate of Doctor of Medicine from the University of the Philippines and completed internal medicine residency training in the Philippine General Hospital. While I developed a deep love for clinical medicine during my training, I had a growing desire to work upstream and attempt to improve health for bigger populations. The transition started when I conducted a cohort study exploring posthospitalisation outcomes of patients admitted under General Medicine service, in an attempt to ‘find’ and give voice to patients who were ‘lost to follow up’. It was also during this time that I developed interest in health systems and health technology assessment.

I am currently reading for MSc International Health and Tropical Medicine, and in recent months I have developed an appreciation for mathematical modeling for infectious diseases and economic modeling. I plan to write my dissertation on the intersection of modeling and engagement with the public and the policy-makers.

Outside of academics, my interests include coffee brewing, taking long walks in Oxford, and baking bread and cookies.
