I’m a medical doctor, management consultant, and expectant father.

I have broad interests in global health and sustainable development, but particularly the use of strategic analysis and decision sciences in examining market failures. I recently completed an MPP in economic development at the Harvard Kennedy School, where I was a Frank Knox Memorial Fellow and a Teaching Assistant in Machine Learning & Big Data Analytics. At Oxford, I am reading for the MSc in International Health & Tropical Medicine, and hope to explore the mathematical modelling and management of infectious disease outbreaks.

Prior to my current period of educational leave, I was a manager in McKinsey & Company’s Public Sector Practice. My work as a management consultant focused on national health reforms (regulation, financing, systems design), complemented by experience spanning hospital operational reconfiguration, organisational design, biotech R&D strategy, pharma M&A, and the use of machine learning to inform public policy development.

I also have experience as a Policy Fellow at the Department of Prime Minister & Cabinet (Australia), a Resident Medical Officer at the Royal Darwin Hospital, and from internships at Gavi Vaccine Investment Strategy) and the World Health Organization (Sustainable Development Goals).

I was born in Hong Kong, grew up in New Zealand, and am mainly based in Australia.

I, a physician-turned-civil servant, am a registered dentist by training. I obtained a BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. I also hold a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) from AIUB, Dhaka and a Postgraduate Diploma in Population Sciences from the University of Dhaka. I have gone through professional training ranging from political economy to public procurement.

I worked as a physician and in various administrative capacities for four years in the government health service. Later I switched over to Civil Service and then joined Bangladesh Planning Commission, the central policy planning institution of the country. Here I have been working as an economic analyst for national development planning. I am contributing towards appraisal, evaluation and implementation monitoring of projects addressing the issues of health, education, decent work, and gender equality. I also serve as SDGs focal person and lead a team working on the data-driven government to ensure more effective and efficient public services.

I am currently working as an Internal Medicine Physician in a 400-bed tertiary hospital in my home country, Seychelles. As we lack medical sub-specialties and specialist services, the job of a physician in Seychelles involves being able to manage a wide range of clinical presentations; from TB to infective endocarditis to strokes and everything in between. I am also the Chairperson of the Doctors Association, Doctors 4 Doctors Seychelles, working tirelessly to improve working conditions for doctors. I also sit on an editorial board of nine other doctors and, together, we are proud to have produced the first medical magazine in Seychelles.

Building on the experience I already have, this year at Oxford I hope to learn more about the major disease burdens affecting developing countries and understand the practicalities of applying this knowledge to clinical practice. Persuading healthcare leaders and politicians to make evidence-informed decisions remains a challenge in Seychelles and I would like to help change this. I hope to develop the skills needed to translate evidence-based medicine into public health policy.

I am also excited to meet my fellow scholars, who are undoubtedly leaders in their own right. I look forward to learning from them and to the exchange of ideas, in an intellectually stimulating environment.

I am a civil servant from Pakistan. I hold a bachelor’s degree in medicine and have a special interest in health policy. Being a civil servant from a developing country, this degree at Oxford shall help me learn health policy options in resource constrained settings.

At Green Templeton I aim to network with other wonderful people and learn from them. I look forward to have a wonderful time at Green Templeton.
