MSc Medical Anthropology
2021

Giada PortaluppiHi all! My name is Giada and I’m looking forward to pursuing an MSc in Medical Anthropology! I graduated with a BSc in Population Health from University College London, and I hope to be able to add on to my knowledge with this Master’s. I’m interested in health policy and global health, specifically sustainable development and reproductive health and its influence to health and illness.

Outside of my studies, I enjoy reading and I’m planning on discovering all the beautiful libraries! I’m excited to be a part of Green Templeton and its interdisciplinary vibrant community. I also can’t wait to explore what GTC and Oxford has to offer while trying out new hobbies!

Hello! I’m originally from a small rural town in the state of Illinois, USA. I’m very excited to be pursuing an MSc in Medical Anthropology. I recently received my bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Upon completion of my Masters programme, I hope to enter medical school and apply my knowledge of medical anthropology to my pursuit of a career in global health. I am particularly interested in immigrant health equity and efforts to supply marginalised populations with the health resources they require.

In my spare time, I enjoy exploring libraries, listening to film scores, and playing tennis. During my time at Green Templeton, I hope to form lasting connections with students and faculty while taking full advantage of my residence in this exciting city. I look forward to engaging in new experiences and maximising my year as a member of the Green Templeton community.

I aspire to work in health policy and, through my Masters, want to study the different meanings of health, illness, and wellbeing across time and place and among different societies. I am interested in public health, issues of prioritisation, and the prevention and management of crises. I have also recently developed an interest in biographical writing as a form of research.

As an undergraduate, I studied Social Anthropology and Geography and, because I would like to learn more about the biological and evolutionary sides of medicine, I am particularly excited about the interdisciplinary community at Green Templeton and its focus on health, care and policy!

Throughout my time at Oxford, I am also hoping to continue fencing, my hobby of many years.
