Dr Dorcas Muchiri

Dorcus is a Kenyan born and trained clinician, graduated top of her class in her Masters of Medicine in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Nairobi. She is an international health care professional, having worked in the largest public maternity and gynaecology units as well as private health sectors in Kenya and more recently in the NHS in the United Kingdom, as well as a private fertility specialist. She has been involved in women’s health research and has presented her work at international conferences and is actively involved in sharing clinical knowledge to health care professionals across the globe.
Dorcus has had a career experience that has led her to seek the connection between research and the delivery of health care for women and girls. She is interested in digital technologies in health and is particularly keen to work in global spaces to promote the uptake of women’s health research findings. She is passionate about the ownership by women in their own health and therefore keen to see patient involvement in accessing better health services globally. She looks forward to scaling into a DPhil in Translational Health Sciences.
She is a bibliophile who enjoys local and international travels and keeps fit with weightlifting and calisthenics in her leisure time.

Having worked for the NHS for nearly five years, I’m excited for this opportunity to explore the barriers between innovation and front line clinical services. Prior to working for the NHS I was a strategy consultant, having graduated from Oxford in Engineering Science. I’m looking forward to coming back!

Ali Yildirim is an MSc candidate in Translational Health at Nuffield Primary care Health science Department in University of Oxford. He has mixed background in health care and software development Engineer in Test (SDET). He worked as a consultant Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) before he started his PhD. He holds a PhD in Interprofessional collaborative practice (IPCP) and interprofessional education (IPE) in Health and Social Care. During his PhD he started to learn software development and Software Automations to work on Health Care mobile Apps and technologies. He closely worked with programmers to develop some Speech therapy Apps and hyper causal games. He is currently working Part time as an SDET.
His areas of interest are health technologies, software’s, Artificial intelligent (AI) and machine learning in health care. How can we use software’s to provide better interprofessional collaborative care for Patients/Service Users? He is the member of Royal Society of Medicine and other various professional bodies in Healthcare and IT sector. Dr Yildirim held multiple volunteer roles with the refugee charities in Oxford and internationally. He has a Trustee role in a charity that aims to provide digital services with mobile apps and software’s to the refugees in the UK. He is also doing some voluntary virtual and face-to-face consultancy for refugee families who have children with complex needs and speech and Language difficulties. He is a member of Amnesty international and activist on Human right issues around World. During the COVID-19 crisis, he registered with the NHS to provide some support for the NHS. Concurrently, he facilitated some seminars/talks and mentoring sessions for refugee healthcare and IT professionals and academics in the UK. He enjoys camping, wild swim, hiking and kayaking.
