Ellen Bishell
PGCE Modern Languages, 2023
I completed my undergraduate degree in French and Spanish at the University of Kent in 2019 and a Masters by Research in Latin American Studies at Newcastle University in 2020.
Going to on commence a Modern Foreign Languages PhD programme, during which time I was fortunate enough to teach a bunch of wonderful aspiring linguists, I realised where my true passion lies.
I joined the University of Oxford in 2023 to complete my training as a Secondary School MFL (Spanish and French) teacher, and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made.

PGCE in Geography, 2022
I am currently studying after completing 9 years as an Army Officer. After graduating from my undergraduate degree in 2013, I attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst to complete the regular commissioning course.
During the last 8 years I have lead soldiers on training and operations all over the world. I delivered humanitarian relief in Nepal following the 2015 earthquake and delivered force protection and sustainability expertise to US Forces throughout the middle east.
I believe the education system in the UK requires large-scale reform with a focus on leadership, and my first step on that journey is here at Oxford.
I am married to Caroline who works in the GTC garden. We both enjoy trail running, and occasionally run 100 miles in one go. We both hope to contribute to the GTC allotment during our time here and promote GTCs human welfare and environmental well-being agenda.

PGCE Biology
2021
In 2019 I graduated from the University of Southampton with a BSc (hons) in Zoology. I then completed my MSc in Wild Animal Biology at the Royal Veterinary College London in conjunction with the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) in 2020. Despite the pandemic I managed to graduate at the top of my class! During this time I gained valuable experience working alongside some incredible vets, pathologists, curators and keepers.
Although my initial goal was to work abroad in conservation research, graduating during a pandemic changed my career path. I ended up working in a London secondary school and found a real passion for teaching. I am really looking forward to carrying out my PGCE and hope to pass on my love for science to my students.
Aside from science, my favourite thing to do is travel. This has been sabotaged a little by the pandemic but I hope to be able to embark on another adventure soon!
PGCE Physics
