Third Beyond Gold Green Impact Award

Green Templeton is proud to have achieved a Green Impact Beyond Gold Award for the third year running. The award was announced at the Vice-Chancellor’s Sustainability Awards on Thursday 19 June 2025.
This built on previous recognition in the annual Green Impact Awards. It recognised how Green Templeton has maintained and improved on existing sustainable initiatives, as well as a number of specific projects underway.
Observatory Street energy efficiency
2024 saw the replacement of 29 timber sash front windows with timber double glazed sash versions, in line with conservation of this iconic street. Nine front doors and frames were also replaced with multi locking fitted front doors. Five doors were left untouched due to being in good condition and fully functional. This has meant less drafts, more energy efficient as well as providing improved comfort and aesthetics. It built on previous work to replace rear windows and doors.
Measuring carbon emissions
Reporting the college’s carbon emissions for scopes 1, 2 and 3 has been on the ‘to do’ list for a while partly due to the enormity of the task. A start was made on collating the data for financial year 2023/24 and significant progress has already been made.
Scope 1
Heating and the college van amounts to 418.39 tCO2e.
Scope 2
Electricity usage amounts to 0 tCO2e due to the supply coming from 100% renewable tariff.
Scope 3
Travel, water use, material use, waste, suppliers and contractors in progress.
With regular utility meter readings over the years and now half hourly smart readers, the data for scopes 1 and 2 has been relatively simple. Scope 3, on the other hand, is far from easy and requires to be split into sections, each one with its own measurable sub categories. These include travel, working from home, transport and distribution losses, material usage, water, waste and suppliers.
Work continues on scope 3 and as the details of the data needed are highlighted, systems are put in place to try and collect the information in a more automated and streamlined way to future proof and streamline future information gathering.
More about sustainability at Green Templeton
This award recognises the college’s commitment to a sustainable future. In June 2024 Governing Body agreed a new Climate Action Policy to 2035 that is key to driving the agenda.
