Frequently asked questions

How do I apply to the Coaching Programme? What is the deadline?
To apply, you must first attend an information session in November. This first step is essential; you won’t be able to apply if you haven’t attended. Register for the information session.
After the information sessions, the closing date for applications is Monday 17 November.
Who are the coaches?
The programme is provided by a group of qualified, professional executive coaches, with many years of experience working with high-level individuals in a range of fields (including business, medicine, and academia). The coaches donate these sessions – which would otherwise cost hundreds of pounds an hour – to help Green Templeton students pro bono.
What kind of topics do people discuss with their coaches?
You’ll be asked to raise a topic or topics for discussion, so these sessions can be very flexible and tailored to the challenges you’re facing and your specific skills and priorities. Last year, the most popular topics included:
- Considering career options
- Priorities and decision making
- Time management
- Building confidence
- Considering other options post-degree (non-career related)
- Leadership
- Work life balance
- Communication skills
- Networking
Who can join the Coaching Programme?
The programme is open to all currently enrolled Green Templeton students and Doll Fellows. Our MBA students and others with access to coaching via the Saïd Business School are encouraged to use that programme first, with the option to apply for Green Templeton in subsequent years. We strongly recommend that you do not undertake two different coaching programmes at the same time.
I don’t live in Oxford – can I still participate in coaching?
Certainly! Many of our coaches deliver sessions online, so it’s easy to participate remotely. We can accommodate timezone differences etc – just flag these in your application.
I’ve participated in the Coaching Programme before. Can I apply again?
Yes – we’ll prioritise applications from people who are applying for the first time, but there’s a good chance we’ll fit you in. If you’ve already attended an information session, you don’t need to attend again: email ruth.scobie@gtc.ox.ac.uk for the application form and link.
I can’t attend either of the information sessions. What should I do?
As long as it’s before the application closing date (17 November), we’ll do our best to set up an alternative online meeting at a time which suits you. Email ruth.scobie@gtc.ox.ac.uk as early as possible. If it proves impossible for you to make any catch-up sessions, you may want to reflect on whether you have enough time in your schedule to commit to this programme at this time.
I’m a qualified coach – how do I find out more about volunteering my time to this programme?
Thanks for your interest! Email academic.projects@gtc.ox.ac.uk to find out more.
