Dr Alexander Finlayson

Alexander Finlayson profile pic with low rise roofs behindDr Alexander Finlayson is an Associate Fellow, Green Templeton College, University of Oxford. He is a doctor, entrepreneur and academic whose work spans medicine, digital health, global health and AI governance.

Alexander was previously for more than ten years the college’s Doll Fellow, with responsibility for Graduate Entry Medicine. He previously co-founded and led Nye Health, a digital health company working with the NHS, founded MedicineAfrica, an award-winning social enterprise supporting medical education and health-system capacity in Somaliland and other underserved settings, and helped found TheHill as part of Oxford’s wider innovation community.

He has advised organisations including UNICEF and LifeArc on innovation, evaluation, data and AI. His current work focuses on AI safety, civic intelligence and the governance of powerful technologies. He is particularly interested in how institutions and technology can be brought together to strengthen public systems, improve health and respond to emerging risks.
