Professor Gary Ford

Professor Gary Ford is a Governing Body Fellow of Green Templeton College and Chair of the Risk and Scrutiny Committee. He is Professor of Stroke Medicine at the University of Oxford, CEO of Health Innovation Oxford and Thames Valley, and a Consultant Stroke Physician at Royal Berkshire Hospital.
From 2005 to 2013 Gary was Director of the NIHR Stroke Research Network which delivered a five-fold increase in recruitment of stroke patients into clinical trials. He is a non-executive Board member of NICE.
Research area
Development and evaluation of acute stroke therapies; Gary has been involved in many service innovations in UK stroke care in the last 30 years. He developed and evaluated the Face Arm Speech Test now used to increase public and professional awareness of stroke. He has undertaken real world evaluations of the outcomes from adoption of thrombolysis and stroke AI imaging.
