Alumni Profile: Clemens Jarnach

Dr Clemens Jarnach (DPhil Sociology, 2018) has built a distinguished interdisciplinary career exploring the dynamics of misinformation, political behaviour, and public opinion formation. His doctoral research at Green Templeton College, University of Oxford, supervised by Professor Stephen Fisher, delved deeply into how media consumption shapes political identity and decision-making. Utilising data science and machine learning, Clemens illuminated the subtle cognitive processes influencing public attitudes and behaviour in Britain.

Beyond academia, Clemens has applied his expertise practically as a research practitioner and data scientist with Giving Evidence, a consultancy dedicated to impactful philanthropy. His role involves empirical research designed to maximise the effectiveness of charitable initiatives. He is always interested to hear from others working on similar topics.

Clemens maintains a close relationship with Green Templeton College, actively contributing to its community as a college ambassador, professional photographer, mentor, and judge for the 2025 Photography Competition. Reflecting fondly on his Oxford experience, he highlights the college’s intellectually vibrant environment and its commitment to solving real-world problems through rigorous inquiry.

Outside of his professional life, Clemens is passionate about mountaineering and equestrianism, finding clarity and inspiration in the mountains.
