Beyond Borders: Global healthcare in times of crisis

Richard Doll Society Annual Conference

Saturday 27 September 2025   09:30 to 16:30

Rds 2025 Conference

About the event

This year’s Richard Doll Society (RDS) Annual Conference is on Global Healthcare in Times of Crisis.

Healthcare systems are continually tested by global crises — whether through war, pandemics, natural disasters, or structural inequalities. This year’s conference will explore the impact of conflict, disaster, and systemic instability on healthcare around the world — and how we can respond with resilience, justice, and care.

It will focus on three key themes:

  • Building Local Capacities – exploring how communities develop resilience and create solutions from within, especially in resource-limited settings.
  • Women’s Health in Crisis – examining how conflict, displacement, and health system collapse disproportionately affect women and girls, and how gender equity must shape our responses.
  • Medicine in the Context of War and Genocide – confronting the moral and practical challenges of delivering care under extreme conditions and human rights violations.

Our speakers will draw on diverse global experiences — from humanitarian response to health justice work — to discuss neglected but vital topics. Whether it’s supporting healthcare workers in crisis zones, addressing gendered health disparities, or navigating the ethics of care in war-torn regions, this conference will offer powerful insights and room for reflection.
