About

Hugo Alconada MonHugo Alconada Mon is an Argentinian journalist specialised in Investigative Journalism about corruption in politics, money laundering and corporate fraud. He’s been woking for more than 20 years at La Nación, one of Argentina’s leading media outlets, and he is part of the newspaper’s main editorial team since 2009. He also writes for the Spanish newspaper El País and is a member of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists and worked on the Panama Papers.

Alconada Mon will speak about the state of journalism in Argentina after the election of populist leader Javier Milei as President in November 2023. Milei has recently shut down the state-owned news agency and has also promised to close the public broadcaster in a move that experts say would be unwise. Back in October we published this piece by Gretel Kahn on Milei’s relationship with American TV anchor Tucker Carlson, who’s cultivated other populist leaders around the world.
