About the event
Wherever you are in the world, everyone is welcome to join us for the very first It’s Time for Tea with Michael Pirie – a relaxed hour of conversation, gardening and news from Green Templeton.
After more than 40 years of caring for the college gardens, Michael has plenty of gardening wisdom to share. Over a cup of tea, he’ll offer some of his favourite tips for preparing the garden for winter and answer your gardening questions.
He’ll be joined by Principal Sir Sir Michael Dixon, Senior Tutor Dr Alison Stenton, Bursar Julie Saunders and Development Director Ceri Butcherr, who will share some of the latest news from Green Templeton and what lies ahead.
For members of the Pirie Society, we’re also sending a little bit of Green Templeton to you. Keep an eye on your post for a small something from the college to enjoy with us on the day.
Wherever you’re joining us from, choose your favourite tea or coffee, find a good biscuit or a slice of cake, and settle in for what we hope will feel like an afternoon together at Green Templeton.

About the Pirie Society
The Pirie Society is Green Templeton College’s legacy society, bringing together those who have chosen to remember the college with a gift in their Will.
Named in honour of Head Gardener Michael Pirie and his remarkable contribution to college life, the Society reflects a shared commitment to supporting students, the college community and Green Templeton’s long-term priorities.
About the speaker
Michael Pirie became Head Gardener at the college in April 1980, becoming the de facto in-house historian. He has witnessed what was once a small community has grown into a diverse and outward looking one, shaped by successive generations of students, fellows and staff. Michael has cared for the college with consistency and dedication. In doing so, he has helped create an environment in which students can feel at ease, fellows can reflect, and the wider community can come together. His work has supported daily collegiate life in ways that are not immediately noticed, but deeply felt. Naming the Pirie Society in his honour reflects the values that sustain Green Templeton College – commitment, humility and foresight: ‘I look forward to welcoming many of you to this community, committed to furthering shared objectives long into the future through a legacy gift.’
