The Newsom-Davies Neurological Society (NDNS) hosted their annual conference, ‘Breakthroughs and Brainwaves’ on Saturday 17 February. Supported by Annual Fund donors and held in college, the event attracted a diverse audience of students, academics, neurologists, and neurosurgeons, all contributing to a vibrant exchange of ideas.

Iris-Mae Morse (Clinical Medicine, 2022) reports

Renowned in the field of neurology and neurosurgery, respectively, Professor Kevin Talbot and Mr Mario Ganau delivered captivating talks that set the tone for the day’s discourse. Following these engaging lectures, a well-deserved coffee break provided attendees with an opportunity to recharge whilst enjoying the poster prize entries in the Stables Gallery. The afternoon session commenced with a presentation by Associate Professor Maria Da Silva Leite, followed by Dr Soham Bandyopadhyay, each adding their unique perspectives on the future of neurology.

Over lunch, our guest speakers lent their expertise to judge the poster competition, evaluating submissions based on their scientific rigor and innovation. To bring the day of academic talks to a close, Professor Masud Husain delivered an insightful presentation on the topic of motivation, which seamlessly transitioned into a panel discussion led by Aziza Wahedi and Iris-Mae Morse. During the panel discussion, questions were opened to the floor and attendees gleaned valuable insights into career development and common pitfalls encountered in the field of neurology.
