An article co-authored by Green Templeton Fellows Professor Timothy Hoff and Professor Sue Dopson, and Brasenose College Academic Associate Dr Mahima Mitra, has been published in BMJ Opinion, discussing recent research into the wellbeing of early career physicians.
The article, titled The medical profession is breaking its psychological contract with medical students and trainees, discusses the issue of breaking psychological contracts between medical trainees and their training institutions that involve expectations and implied promises. The research found that ‘Too many young doctors experience psychological contract violations with the institutions responsible for training them.’
BMJ Opinion provides comment and opinion written by The BMJ’s international community of readers, authors, and editors.
This research was undertaken as part of the Management in Medicine programme, and the study was funded through a grant made by the Templeton Education and Charity Trust, Oxford.
Professor Hoff has also recently published a related piece for The American Journal of Managed Care, titled The Challenges of Consumerism for Primary Care Physicians.
